Here at Campervan HQ, we sell a variety of solutions to power your vanlife adventures. The EcoFlow DELTA Pro Portable Power Station is a power solution well-suited to the needs of many vanlifers, while also having a secret superpower: the ability to function as an emergency home backup power system.

Many portable power stations - like those from Goal Zero, Jackery, Bluetti, etc - have three big limitations: a weak inverter, not enough battery bank capacity, and a short-lived lithium-ion battery type. You need a powerful inverter to offer the continuous power that heavy loads require, and also a high surge draw rating to be able to start up motors and compressors. You also need a high-capacity battery so you aren't running out of stored power too quickly. The DELTA Pro has both of these in spades: a very powerful 3600W pure sine inverter with an impressive 7200W surge rating, and a 3.6 kWh battery bank. Also, it uses a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery chemistry, the best choice for long life.

The EcoFlow DELTA Pro Portable Power Station is very easy to use. The LCD screen on the front of the DELTA Pro has a large and colorful display, showing you the active power inputs and power outputs, the percentage of battery charge remaining, and the time to charge and discharge. It has 5 AC outlets on the front, 4 of them in the standard 20A household 3-prong format, and one in the 30A RV-style configuration. Its intuitive interface and plug-and-play design make it simple to set up, and its sleek and durable design ensures it can withstand even the toughest outdoor conditions. A single DELTA Pro unit weighs about 99 pounds, so it's not light, but the sturdy dual rear wheels, the built-in telescoping handle and top handles make it quite easy to move around.

Is this a capable enough solution for vanlife? By way of example, our last Campervan HQ demo van had a 300 Ah lithium battery bank and a 2000W inverter, so a smaller inverter but the same battery bank capacity as the DELTA Pro, and that power system easily supported a Nova Kool R4500 4.5 cubic foot 12-volt refrigerator, an 1800W double-burner induction cooktop, a Dometic RTX2000 rooftop air conditioner, a Bosch Tronic 3000T water heater, 12V water pump, LED interior lights, and device charging. The EcoFlow DELTA Pro has even better capacity, and should be able to solidly support even more RV appliances than what we've described here. Also, if you built the DELTA Pro into a battery box (along with an AC/DC fuse panel, since it doesn't come with that), you can have a separate DELTA Pro Remote Control mounted on the wall of your van to display DELTA Pro details. The Remote Control can connect wirelessly via Bluetooth or can be wired with a standard Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connector. If you wanted to use the DELTA Pro with a fully-built RV, you could easily plug the RV's shore power connection into the DELTA Pro RV-style AC output socket.

Unlike earlier DELTA power station models and many other competing portable power stations, the massive 3600Wh battery bank of the DELTA Pro is made of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells, the industry gold standard for RV batteries currently. Lithium iron phosphate batteries do not have the highest energy density of the different lithium-ion-battery chemistries, but they do have the longest typical lifespans and the lowest susceptibility to thermal runaway, the damaging overheating condition that in other kinds of lithium chemistries has caused fires and explosions. We've never heard of a single fire or explosion with LFP batteries, and that's another reason why this particular chemistry has become so dominant for lithium batteries in general.

Another great design feature of EcoFlow components is that all of them, including the DELTA Pro, can be monitored and controlled via the sleek EcoFlow app (available in iOS and Android versions) from your smartphone. The EcoFlow app compares very favorably with the VictronConnect app, with a clean, easy-to-read interface.

The EcoFlow DELTA Pro Portable Power Station is also incredibly versatile, with multiple charging options to ensure it's always ready when needed. You can charge it up using a standard home AC outlet or shore power at an RV park/campground, from portable or fixed rooftop solar panels, or (get this!) an EV charging station using the optional EcoFlow X-Stream Adapter. If you're charging at 3400W from a level 2 EV charging station, the whole battery can be recharged in from zero to 100 percent in about 1.7 hours.

Have you been thinking about getting a generator because of increasingly frequent power outages? The DELTA Pro can be your mobile power system in your adventure van, then double as your home backup solution. With the EcoFlow Smart Home Panel installed in your house, you can easily plug your DELTA Pro into the panel with an EcoFlow Infinity Cable to supply backup power for your whole house. You can even connect two to six DELTA Pro units together, providing you with Tesla Powerwall-size battery bank capacity, and using the EcoFlow Double Voltage Hub, even the ability to provide two 240V outlets. Another option is to increase battery capacity by adding a DELTA Pro Smart Extra Battery (using a Smart Extra Battery Cable, which gives you more power storage at a cheaper cost than buying more DELTA Pro systems.

FAQ

How does the Power Hub communicate the voltage to the Smart Distribution panel?

There are two included RJ45 network cables included in a Independence Power Kit. One that connects the Power Hub directly to the Smart AC/DC Distribution Panel; a second one to connect the Power Hub to the Power Kit Console.

What is the operating temperature range of the Power Kit Console?

The information as stated in the user manual is below: -20C to 50C (-4F to 122F). This is the operating temperature range for all
Power Kit components.

What is considered a standard alternator input scenario and what is else is allowed involving alternator charging with EcoFlow Power Kits?

All 3x PV/ALT input ports can be used as alternator charging ports. The first ATL-IN input port can allow 70A max and 1600W input max, meaning that if you draw from 12V alternator you can only get 13.6V x 70A = 952W which is almost 1000 (it will fluctuate between 950W and 1000W). If a 48V alternator is connected to port 1, then an estimated 54V x 29.6A = 1600W is expected. The 2nd and 3rd ALT-IN input ports are both 30A max and 1600W max. If you connect a 12V alternator to these ports, an estimated 13.6V x 30A = 408W each is expected. If you connect a 48V alternator to ALT-IN 2 or 3 ports, an estimated 54V x 29.6A = 1600W each is expected. If you connect a 12V alternator on all 3 ALT-IN input ports, an estimated 952W + 408W + 408W = 1768W (if your 12V alternator can deliver 70A + 30A + 30A = 130A) is expected. If you use 48V alterantor on all 3 ports, an estimated 1600W + 1600W + 1600W = 4800W input is expected.

What type of shore power inlet is recommended for an EcoFlow Power Kit?

The Power Kit allows up to 30A input, so we recommend 30amps max. 30A to 15A converters are available if your enegy consumption needs are not high. Furrion is a tested and trusted brand that has worked perfectly with an EcoFlow Power Kit.
