I purchased just the driver’s seat swivel to try out before spending the extra money on the passenger side. After I completed the installation and operated the seat swivel (not sitting on it! I’ve got to be honest in saying that I wasn’t impressed with the smoothness of the swivel. Being a taller person, being seated in the seat while swiveling is impossible. So I must get up out of the seat to set it in the desired location before sitting in it - Not at all the fault of the manufacturer. While sitting in the seat and driving I noticed a pretty substantial difference in how secure the seat felt. Meaning, there’s now a slight flex in all directions. I guess this can be expected when going from a seat securement approximately 12” from corner to corner to the ability to swivel on a 6” radius. There’s a slight gap in the top and bottom plates (roughly 1/2”) and this is the reason why I’m feeling the flex while seated. Alpine Swivel will be my next order and replacement for this.
Mixed Feelings…
Overall, I believe the product has its benefits for the common user. Pros: Fairly easy installation. Really cool to have the ability to sit while facing the rear of the vehicle, for visiting others etc.. Cons (for me): Being a tall man (6’-4”) I find it impossible to spin the seat while sitting in at (as others have said they do). My ‘24 Sprinter Crew Van has electric powered seats & parking brake, so I’ve had to designate one of my seat-memory buttons to adjust the seat, once I’m out of it, to slide forward and incline the back rest so I can actuate the lever for spinning it. At this point, I’ve designated a second seat-memory button to adjust the seat to a comfortable and practical position to sit in. Realize that reaching your seat-memory buttons is not a simple task when seat is turned. Last, you’ll notice that you’ll have a slight rocking in your seat after installing. This is no fault of the manufacturer, just understand that you’ve gone from a 4 point securement, at the furthest possible points on the seat base, to a much smaller circular bearing that allows for the seat to spin. Inevitability there’s going to be some slight movement (rocking) once your weight is on it. I don’t believe this is any cause for concern and I trust the manufacturer’s R&D for safety. My concern comes with the longevity of this device…As we all know, something that moves when new, is sure to get worse with use - Time will tell.
